BECKLEY, W.V. (LOOTPRESS) – Monday, Jan. 10, marked the first day of the filing period for the 2022 election cycle in West Virginia, meaning candidates across the state took today to submit their paperwork and take another step in the election process.
Locally, Daniel Hall, a lifelong Raleigh County resident, filed his candidacy papers on Monday to run for Raleigh County Commissioner.
Hall, with eight years in the West Virginia Legislature – four in the House of Delegates and four in the Senate – in addition to the governmental affairs work he has been involved in since leaving the Senate in 2016, believes his past in Charleston can be a great help to Raleigh County.
“I have always worked to try and improve Raleigh County,” he told Lootpress moments after submitting his paperwork at the Raleigh County Courthouse. “I want people to stay here, to work and raise a family here and live here. I think my experience in Charleston and the connections I have in the state government, and federal government as well, would be beneficial to serving the Raleigh County Commission.”
If elected as a commissioner, Hall says he has several goals, including attracting more and better-paying businesses to the county, as well as introducing a wider variety of jobs to Raleigh County residents.
“I want to use my experience and connections to bring in resources to grow the county. Raleigh County is positioned favorably with the interstates coming in here and a great airport,” he stated. “I believe that as the City of Charleston continues to face more and more challenges, Beckley and Raleigh County are poised to absorb and take in economic growth.
“I think we are in a strong position to do good things here. Raleigh County is the economic hub of southern West Virginia. There is no doubt about it, and everybody knows and recognizes it. We just have to keep growing.”
According to the West Virginia Secretary of State’s Office, candidates have until Jan. 29 to submit their paperwork. After filing, they will anxiously await the results of the Primary Election in May and the General Election in November.
