BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A student was found with a handgun in their backpack at Woodrow Wilson High School.
A student came forward and provided information to the administration and the School Resource Officer assigned full-time to Woodrow Wilson High School that another student had a handgun in their backpack. A handgun was located in the backpack of a student and the student was taken into custody without incident.
No threats were made and based on the initial investigation; it does not appear the student brought the gun with any intention to use it.
Being that this case involves a juvenile, no other additional details can be released.
“We are grateful that the student came forward and we would remind students that it is important if you see something, say something to a teacher, administrator, or resource officer. School safety is a top priority of the Beckley Police Department and that is why we dedicate officers to the High School and both middle schools in Beckley. Resource officers frequently visit elementary feeder schools at their assigned school,” says David Allard with Beckley Police.
The investigation into this matter is ongoing and additional information may be released as it becomes available.
