BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Aredith “NayNay” Thompson attended court proceedings on Thursday in Raleigh County following a widely publicized escape from home confinement and subsequent search by authorities.
The court date would come a week to the day after the suspect’s detainment by the U.S. Marshals Service and Task Force at a Prosperity residence.
Thompson was initially arrested on charges of First-Degree-Murder stemming from a shooting incident in which Beckley resident Jewan Greer was fatally wounded on November 23, 2022, at 105 1/2 Truman Avenue. Thompson has been adamant since the shooting that the act was one of self-defense.
In May of 2023, Thompson was indicted and saw release from incarceration at Southern Regional Jail on bond contingent upon compliance with agreed upon home confinement stipulations. This arrangement would end in the forced removal of the applicable home confinement monitoring bracelet, followed by attempts to evade authorities during the lead-up to her eventual capture at Bender Ridge Road in Prosperity, WV.
“Home confinement is a privilege, specifically as it pertains to being determined by the condition of bond,” said Raleigh County Prosecuting Attorney Ben Hatfield of the situation. “If you go on the run for something like this, you will be running for the remainder of your life.”
Judge H.L. Kirkpatrick III proceeded over Thursday’s hearing, and it was ultimately determined that Thompson would see revocation of both bond and home confinement. Thompson will be reprimanded to Southern Regional Jail without bond as she awaits trial.
The trial date has been set for November 27, 2023, just over a year following the initial shooting incident.
