CHARLESTON, W.Va. (LOOTPRESS) – On Wednesday, the House of Delegates passed House Joint Resolution 104, which amends the Constitution of the State of West Virginia to allow voters to decide whether or not to limit the terms of the state’s constitutional officers.
According to the resolution’s literature, at the next general election voters can choose to bar individuals in the following offices from serving three consecutive terms:
- Secretary of State
- Auditor, State Treasurer
- Commissioner of Agriculture
- Attorney General
While the governor is already limited to two consecutive terms, the aforementioned offices currently have no term limit.
The resolution passed on Wednesday, 93 to 0 with seven delegates not voting. The resolution has been communicated to the Senate.
