MOUNT HOPE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Mount Hope Police arrested an undocumented immigrant Thursday afternoon following a roadside encounter on U.S. Route 19.
According to the Mount Hope Police Department, officers were on routine patrol when they saw an individual walking along the roadway in an unsafe manner.
Officers stopped to conduct a welfare check and, during the interaction, determined the person was an undocumented immigrant.
After confirming the individual’s status, police said the person was taken into custody without incident.
“Our officers acted professionally and within the law to ensure the safety of both the individual and the traveling public,” Mayor Michael Kessinger stated. “We will continue to work closely with federal and state partners to ensure proper procedures are followed.”
Police said the individual was transported to the Southern Regional Jail and is awaiting ICE deportation.
