WEST VIRGINIA (LOOTPRESS) – The National Weather Service advises West Virginia residents that there is an increased fire risk due to dry weather, low humidity, and wind.
West Virginia residents are urged to exercise caution this afternoon as dry weather and low humidity significantly raise the risk of fire danger. During peak heating hours, relative humidity is expected to drop to 20-30% in lower elevations and 30-40% in higher terrain.
Accompanying the dry conditions, winds from the east-southeast are forecasted to gust between 10 and 20 miles per hour, with the strongest gusts expected along the mountain areas. These factors combine to create an elevated fire hazard.
Officials advise the public to avoid activities that could ignite flames or sparks, as fires can spread rapidly in these conditions. The drought conditions across the state have worsened.
