CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Savion Garcia, a 24-year-old inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) McDowell, pleaded guilty Wednesday to possession of a weapon while incarcerated at the federal prison.
According to court records, during a random cell search on October 19, 2023, a staff member discovered two handmade weapons, commonly referred to as “shanks,” on Garcia’s person.
One of the shanks was a six-inch-long flat metal bar with a cloth-wrapped handle, while the other measured nearly seven inches, with one end sharpened to a point and a similar cloth-wrapped handle.
Garcia admitted the weapons were designed to be used as tools for violence.
Garcia now faces up to five years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing is scheduled for January 13, 2025.
