CABIN CREEK, WV (LOOTPRESS) – On Friday, February 24, 2023, Sheriff’s Deputy J.D. Thaxton met with Kanawha County Humane Officer T. Samms, after Samms reported finding 3 deceased dogs in an abandoned trailer in Cabin Creek, Kanawha County.
Humane Officer Samms reported to deputies that she was called to a trailer in Cordell Court to investigate a report of deceased animals within the trailer. Humane Officer Samms located a deceased adult dog inside as well as a locked crate containing two deceased puppies. Humane Officer Samms reported the condition of the trailer to be extremely messy and abandoned.
All three of the deceased dogs were transported back to the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association (KCHA) on Greenbrier Street in Charleston, where a necropsy will be performed to determine if the cause of death was malnutrition or other factors.
Humane Officer Samms is currently the lead officer in this investigation and informed deputies that she has a suspect who was the previous owner of the trailer. The previous owner has allegedly relocated to Ohio and was already under investigation by Officer Samms for animal cruelty.
Deputy Thaxton is assisting the Humane Office with their investigation and the owner/caretaker of the deceased animals could be facing felony charges of Animal Cruelty, which if convicted could put the owner in jail for up to five years and face fines up to $5000.00.
