MCDOWELL COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Two juveniles have been arrested for making false active shooter threats against River View High School.
On the night of September 12, 2024, and continuing into the following day, the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office responded to a series of active shooter threats made against River View High School in Bradshaw.
After a thorough investigation, deputies determined the threats were fabricated by two juveniles attending the school.
The sheriff’s office discovered the juveniles had posted the false threats on social media, leading to widespread concern. However, law enforcement concluded there was no credible threat to the school.
Both the McDowell County Board of Education and the McDowell County Prosecutor’s Office were informed of the situation.
Charges were filed against the two juveniles, including “Threats of Terrorist Acts,” “Conveying False Information Concerning Terrorist Acts,” “Committing Terrorist Hoaxes,” “Felony Conspiracy,” and “Willful Disruption of a Governmental Process.”
Due to their age, the names of the individuals involved have not been released.
The sheriff’s office stressed that any threats, whether real or fabricated, would be taken seriously and prosecuted.
They also urged families to speak with their children about the dangers of spreading fear through social media.
