KANAWHA COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A surge of rumors circulating on social media about public safety in Cross Lanes has prompted the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office to issue a clear statement addressing what officials describe as misinformation.
According to the Kanawha Sheriff’s Office, there is no serial killer operating in Cross Lanes, despite claims that have appeared online in recent days.
Officials also stressed that there is no “white van” abducting children in the area, calling those reports unfounded and false.
In addition, the Sheriff’s Office said that recent social media posts about missing or runaway juveniles are not connected to any child sex ring or organized criminal activity in Cross Lanes.
Authorities emphasized that while juvenile runaway cases do occur, they are being handled through standard investigative and protective procedures and should not be linked to conspiracy theories.
“Rumors don’t make communities safer. Facts do,” the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office stated, urging residents to rely on verified information rather than speculation shared online.
Officials encouraged the public to focus attention on confirmed community issues, including changes to traffic patterns along Big Tyler Road, rather than spreading unverified claims.
The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office noted that if any serious threat to public safety were to arise, residents would be notified through official channels.
