BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Raleigh County Parks and Recreation Authority has postponed Sunday’s Red, White, and Boom! fireworks celebration at Lake Stephens because of the threat of thunderstorms.
Officials announced the decision Sunday after monitoring multiple weather forecasts, weather applications and the park’s on-site weather station, which was forecasting a 50% to 65% chance of thunderstorms during the planned event.
According to the Raleigh County Parks and Recreation Authority, the decision was made with the safety of guests, staff, vendors and assisting agencies as the top priority.
A makeup date for the fireworks display has not yet been announced, but officials said it will be scheduled soon.
Despite the cancellation of the fireworks, the beach, splash pad and Aqua Park will remain open Sunday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Vendors will also be set up in the splash pad and beach area, and visitors are encouraged to enjoy the park while weather conditions allow.
