HUNTINGTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Law enforcement officials intend to amplify their supervision of motorists’ travel speeds with the introduction of the Speed Enforcement Campaign.
A Thursday release from Traffic Safety Operator for The City of Huntington, Beau Evans, indicates the intent to set the campaign into motion starting Friday, September 2, 2022.
“Speeding endangers everyone on the road,” the statement reads. “We all know the frustrations of modern life and juggling a busy schedule, but speed limits are put in place to protect all road users.”
Reference is made to several speeding-related statistics throughout the release, including the 11,258 lives lost due to speeding in the year 2020 and the 29% contribution rate of speeding to all traffic fatalities.
The release also calls for drivers to adjust their speeds to meet the condition of the roadway on which they are traveling. “Speed limits are set for sunny and dry conditions. If roadways are wet, or snow covered, speeds should be greatly reduced,” the document continues.
“Speeding endangers not only the life of the speeder, but all of the people on the road around them, including law enforcement officers. It is a problem that we can provide a solution for. Simply slow down and pay attention when driving.
Multiple law enforcement agencies are reported to be participating in the Speed Enforcement Campaign, including Barboursville, Huntington, Kenova, Marshall University, Milton, Nitro, Point Pleasant, Ravenwood, Ripley, and West Hamlin Police Departments, as well as the Cabell County, Jackson County, Mason County, and Putnam County Sheriff’s Offices.
