CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The West Virginia House of Delegates convened late Thursday morning to discuss various legislation, including House Bill 2062 which passed after its third reading.
The bill establishes rules and regulations within the state with regard to e-bikes to more closely reflect those established on the federal level.
First filed for introduction in the House on January 11, 2023, House Bill 2062 has amassed nearly a dozen sponsors, including House of Delegates Speaker Roger Hanshaw (R-Clay, 062).
The lead sponsor of the bill, Delegate Tully (R-Nicholas, 049) spoke Thursday on the origins of the bill, revealing that she had been approached by an entrepreneurial constituent who had an interest in opening an e-bike business.
“This bill actually helps promote tourism,” said Delegate Tully of the legislation. “It actually encourages use of our state parks when tourists come to the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve. It actually helps keep young entrepreneurs in our state and wanting to work in small businesses.”
House Bill 2062 passed through the house Thursday receiving a vote of 87 yeas, 9 nays, and 4 Delegates counted absent.
