(LOOTPRESS) – Famed record producer, musician, and engineer, Steve Albini passed away on Tuesday as the result of an apparent heart attack.
The indie rock icon, known for his vast catalogue of work – which includes records with the likes of Nirvana, Foo Fighters, PJ Harvey, Jarvis Cocker, Scott Weiland, and many more – was an immensely influential and, at times, controversial figure in the music industry.
Though perhaps known primary for his career as an audio engineer and record producer, Albini was also an accomplished musician, fronting multiple bands as a guitarist and vocalist, and lending his chops as a musician to dozens of recorded projects.
Albini was an avid commentator on music and the state of the music industry, often participating in speaking engagements and writing for magazines and online outlets.
Multiple outlets received confirmation from individuals close to Albini of his passing, which is said to have occurred on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at his recording studio.
Many high-profile figures in the entertainment industry took to social media to share their thoughts and condolences following the news of Albini’s passing, including influential American alternative act, The Breeders, who wrote,
“The Breeders are mourning the sudden passing of Steve Albini. He built worlds.”
