CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Light snow can be expected in the mountains today, with the next system arriving in West Virginia on Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Charleston, light snow remains possible along and near the mountains this morning.
Any accumulations should be under an inch. High-pressure building in from the west brings an end to precipitation later today.
Tonight into Friday remains dry thanks to high pressure.
A system brings precipitation across the area this weekend Friday night into Sunday.
In the lowlands, snow or a rain/snow mix is possible at the beginning of the event, then warmer temperatures should result in rain for most of the area on Saturday.
Snow could mix in over southeast Ohio Saturday night, but should transition back to all rain Sunday.
In the mountains, the best opportunity for accumulating snow exists over the higher elevations of the northeast mountains, though a period of freezing rain can’t be ruled out.
Minor travel impacts may occur. Outside of the higher elevations, a wintry mix of rain, snow, and perhaps freezing rain is possible.
Precipitation tapers off from west to east overnight into early Monday as high pressure crosses the area.
On Monday, a break in precipitation is expected to occur in between systems.
