BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Raleigh County Commission met Tuesday morning for discussion of an agenda which featured several issues pertaining to district and regional overlap.
These agenda items included development funding for projects which spanned multiple areas, as well as a boundary adjustment for the town of Mabscott, which borders the city of Beckley.
The boundary adjustment request pertains to a property area in Mabscott near Old Eccles Road, the owner of which has made a request for annexation of the property by the city.
Mabscott Town Attorney Ken Sayre was present at the meeting Tuesday to present the request to the Raleigh County Commissioners.
“What we’re asking today is for you all to review the petition, make a determination that this is a mere minor boundary adjustment and set it for public hearing,” said Sayre, who then proceeded to paint a verbal picture of the area in question.
“If you’re looking at Old Eccles Road, the church, which is in the town of Mabscott, is on the right. This is a little piece of property to the left [of Old Eccles Road.]. The property owner, Mr. White, has requested the town to annex it.”
Sayre then went on to explain that the issue had already gone through the Mabscott Town Council, who approved the request and instructed that it be brought before the Raleigh Council for approval.
The Commission did not take issue with the request, and motioned for its approval. The request was then scheduled for a public hearing, which will take place on the first Tuesday of June, the 7th, at 8:00 am, and will be held at the Raleigh County Commission Chambers.
