BELINGTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A Barbour County man is facing charges after allegedly ripping a porch off a condemned home in Belington.
According to law enforcement, officers responded on April 10, 2026, to a report of property destruction at a residence on Wabash Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers made contact with individuals at the scene, including Eric Miller and the suspect, identified as Chris Hiett. Hiett was detained and placed in a patrol vehicle while officers continued their investigation.
Miller told officers that Hiett had damaged the porch of the property, which belongs to Monique English. Authorities were also informed that Hiett had been trespassing inside the condemned structure.
English told officers that the incident began when a truck Hiett was in struck the porch. She said Hiett then exited the vehicle, began inspecting the damage, and was told to leave the property alone. Instead, she alleged that Hiett proceeded to tear the porch off the side of the home, prompting a 911 call.
After being advised of his Miranda rights, Hiett reportedly admitted to officers that he had removed the porch.
The damage to the structure is estimated to be between $200 and $300.
The incident remains under investigation, and charges are pending.
