WHEELING, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Leroy Artemus Tolbert, III, 35, of Brownstown, Michigan, has pled guilty to wire fraud charges, admitting his role in a scheme to defraud Lowe’s Companies, Inc., and several retail locations across multiple states.
Court documents reveal that Tolbert conspired with others to fraudulently apply for Lowe’s credit cards under a company name, using someone else’s identity as an authorized user.
He used these cards to purchase thousands of dollars’ worth of merchandise at Lowe’s stores in Wheeling and Morgantown, West Virginia, as well as in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Michigan.
The total amount of fraud exceeded $100,000.
As part of his plea agreement, Tolbert has agreed to pay $100,000 in restitution. He now faces up to 20 years in prison, with sentencing to be determined by a federal district court judge based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other legal factors.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jarod Douglas is leading the prosecution, with the Federal Bureau of Investigation conducting the investigation.
The case is being overseen by U.S. Magistrate Judge James P. Mazzone.
