GREENBRIER COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A disturbing scene unfolded Friday morning on Interstate 64 when a passing motorist spotted a woman waving frantically for help and a man allegedly putting his hands around her neck. That call to 911 led to the arrest of Alphrin Norman, who now faces multiple charges stemming from what authorities are calling a violent, days-long domestic assault.
Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Deputy Herman Rodriguez was dispatched around 7:45 a.m. to a wellness check near mile marker 154. When he arrived, he found a dark-colored SUV on the shoulder of the westbound lanes and a man, later identified as Norman, approaching him. The deputy also noticed a woman peeking from the driver’s side window, mouthing the words, “HELP ME.”
While questioning Norman, the deputy discovered a concealed knife hidden inside a red comb. Norman reportedly became agitated and refused to comply when asked to sit in the vehicle. Lieutenant Hudnall soon arrived for backup, and Norman was eventually detained without incident.
The victim told officers that Norman had physically assaulted her repeatedly over the last three days, including beating her at a park-and-ride in Alta and while traveling through Lewisburg. She described a particularly violent attack earlier that morning, in which Norman allegedly hit her in the head—causing a visible gash—and threatened to stab and kill her.
The victim said she was forcibly shoved into the car and driven down the interstate against her will. She waved her arms out the window in desperation until the vehicle ran out of gas, leading to their discovery by law enforcement.
A witness confirmed to authorities that she saw the woman waving and a man appearing to choke and shove her against the vehicle, prompting her emergency call.
Deputies also discovered that Norman has a prior domestic violence conviction involving Donahue, and was under a court order prohibiting contact with her through August 29, 2025. His driver’s license had also been revoked indefinitely. A search of the vehicle uncovered a digital scale with white powder residue and a Suboxone strip, potentially adding drug-related charges.
Norman was taken into custody and transported to the Southern Regional Jail on multiple felony charges, including kidnapping, domestic battery, violation of a protective order, and drug possession.
