BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Beckley man was arrested after allegedly exposing himself to a woman at the New River Transit facility while intoxicated.
According to the Beckley Police Department, officers responded to New River Transit on May 23, 2026, following a report of indecent exposure. The victim told police that a man later identified as John Jefferson sat beside her and refused repeated requests to leave.
The woman reported that Jefferson then exposed his genitals to her. After the incident, she said he continued to refuse to leave and allegedly asked her to take pictures with him and requested access to her phone. The victim told officers she felt unsafe because Jefferson appeared to be intoxicated.
When officers arrived, they located Jefferson and observed signs of heavy intoxication, including slurred speech, bloodshot and watery eyes, an unsteady gait, and a strong odor of alcohol. Police said Jefferson agreed to a preliminary breath test, which registered a blood alcohol content of 0.191.
Investigators determined Jefferson was not at the transit facility for official business and noted that multiple “No Trespassing” signs were posted at the property entrances.
Jefferson was taken into custody and transported to the Beckley Police Department for processing before being transferred to Southern Regional Jail to await arraignment.
He is charged with indecent exposure, public intoxication, and trespassing.
The incident occurred within the city limits of Beckley in Raleigh County.
