BLUEFIELD, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A domestic disturbance turned violent on June 8, 2025, when Steven McKinney allegedly threatened his aunt with an axe at a residence, according to the Bluefield Police Department.
Officers responded following reports of a dispute between McKinney and his family members. When police arrived, they found McKinney outside the home and conducted a safety frisk, confirming he was unarmed at the time.
While officers began their investigation, other residents emerged from the home visibly upset and demanding that McKinney be removed from the property. In a written statement, a victim alleged McKinney entered the house wielding an axe and pressed it against the aunt’s throat while shouting threats and using offensive language.
McKinney admitted there was an axe behind the house and made several derogatory remarks about the residents during questioning. Following the investigation, officers arrested McKinney on charges of brandishing a deadly weapon and domestic assault.
He was transported to a nearby hospital for medical clearance before being taken back to the Bluefield Police Department for processing.
