NAOMA, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Raleigh County man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a dog in the Naoma area, according to the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Frank Priddy issued an update on the investigation Tuesday, stating that Joel Lynn Dick was taken into custody on June 11, 2025, following a detailed investigation into the incident.
The case began on June 5, when deputies received a report around 12:52 a.m. that a dog named “Roxy” had been shot by a neighbor.
Later that morning, around 10:28 a.m., the victim called back to report that Roxy had succumbed to her injuries.
Animal Control Officer Feller and Corporal C. Schack took over the case, gathering and reviewing evidence.
Arrest warrants were subsequently obtained for Dick, charging him with cruelty to animals and use or presentation of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Cpl. McDaniel and Sgt. B.J. Adkins apprehended Dick at his residence without incident.
Sheriff Priddy and Chief Deputy Frankie Shelton praised the efforts of Cpl. Schack and ACO Feller, noting that Schack devoted numerous hours both on and off duty to ensure the case was handled thoroughly and properly.
