HURRICANE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Hurricane man has been charged with domestic battery following an altercation at a residence on Clymers Creek Road on April 21.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Putnam County Magistrate Court, deputies responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at approximately 12:46 p.m.
The complainant reported that two brothers were fist-fighting at their father’s house and that one of them, identified as 42-year-old Eric Scott Wood, was allegedly acting strangely and possibly under the influence of methamphetamine.
When law enforcement arrived, Eric Wood was found at the bottom of his father’s driveway.
Wood initially claimed that nothing had happened and denied being involved in any fight.
However, he later admitted to being at his father’s house but claimed not to know who was involved in the altercation.
Deputies noted that Wood’s behavior appeared erratic and led them to suspect he was under the influence of an illegal substance.
Further investigation revealed that Wood allegedly accused his brother of sleeping with his girlfriend, leading to a confrontation at their grandmother’s nearby residence.
Witness statements indicated that after yelling and attempting to punch his brother, Wood was physically restrained. Wood’s father, who witnessed the incident, corroborated this account.
Authorities determined that the altercation took place at the grandmother’s residence.
Eric Wood was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with domestic battery, a misdemeanor offense under West Virginia law.
He is currently at Western Regional Jail on a $2,000 bond.
