UPSHUR COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One man has been arrested after fleeing from police in a Ford F-150 during a traffic stop.
According to police, on August 30, 2023 deputies with the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office attempted a traffic stop on an older model Ford F150 for improper registration.
The deputy believed Corey Wells, a wanted person, to be in possession of that vehicle. That vehicle fled on Waterloo Rd, and onto Alexander Rd, clearly showing reckless indifference for the safety of others.
Deputies lost sight of the vehicle for a few minutes due to the nearly impassable road conditions on which the driver fled.
The suspect vehicle was found abandoned on Canaan Rd, and the driver and suspect, identified as Corey James Wells, was apprehended a short time later with the assistance of Cpl. Chidester and K9 Rico, along with assistance from members of the community.
Wells was charged with Felony fleeing in a vehicle and taken into custody on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant for fleeing.
He is currently at Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $40,000 bond.
