SALT ROCK, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One man has been arrested after pouring ketchup and liquor on his wife and then hitting her with a piece of wood trim and striking her in the jaw.
According to a criminal complaint, on Monday, May 1, at approximately 2:46 AM, officers responded to the Upper Toms Creek area of Salt Rock for a domestic call.
Cabell County Dispatch advised responding Deputies that a female called in stating that her husband Bobby Sothen hit her and that she then left the residence and walked down the road.
The victim stated that her husband was standing in the front yard when she left. Upon Cabell Deputies’ arrival, contact was made with Mr. Sothen in the front yard. Deputies observed Mr. Sothen having red bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and staggered while talking.
An odor of alcoholic beverage came from Mr. Sothen’s breath while speaking. While officers were speaking to Mr. Sothen he seemed very confused and didn’t make much sense.
Mr. Sothen repeatedly stated that his father was sleeping with his wife. Contact was made with the victim and she stated that Mr. Sothen was trying to get her to leave the residence, when she refused that is when he became violent and picked up a piece of wood trim and struck her on her right arm and upper right side of her back.
After striking the victim with the wood trim, Mr. Sothen grabbed bottles of liquor and ketchup and poured them on her. The victim stated after pouring the items on her, he then punched her in the jaw.
The victim told police that she was scared that Mr. Sothen was going to kill her.
Officers discovered that Mr. Sothen was previously charged with domestic assault and domestic battery regarding the same victim. It was also discovered that on April 21st, 2023 Mr. Sothen signed to not contact the victim directly or indirectly.
Sothen is being charged with Malicious Wounding and Domestic Assault. He is currently at Western Regional Jail on a $20,000 bond.
