MARTINSBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One man has been arrested for stealing approximately $85,000 in jewelry while house-sitting for his fiancé’s mother.
According to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, on February 29, 2024, at approximately 6:10 pm, Cpl. J. Shockey responded to Duckwoods Lane in Martinsburg for a residential burglary.
The victim reported that jewelry had been stolen from her residence while she and her daughter were away during the day.
The victim told Cpl. Shockey that her daughter’s fiancé had been watching the house while they were away.
Corporal Shockey, along with Sgt. A. Ennis & Cpl. D. Ritchie, spoke to the fiancé, who identified himself as Cooper Ross.
Deputies grew suspicious of Ross while speaking with him, which led to them obtaining a fingerprint scanner to find his true identity.
At that point, Ross admitted that he had lied about his identity and that his real name was Igor Rosensteel.
Rosensteel then told deputies that he was watching the house while his fiancé and her mother were away, but that he left for forty-five minutes.
Deputies learned that Rosensteel sold the jewelry at a local pawn shop.
They were able to recover the money that Rosensteel received when he sold the jewelry.
Rosensteel, of Baltimore, Maryland, is thirty-three years old.
Deputies also learned that Rosensteel is on federal probation after he was convicted in 2018 of impersonating a Secret Service agent in a credit card fraud & identity theft scheme.
The approximate value of the jewelry that was stolen is $85,000.
Deputies hoped to recover the jewelry yesterday.
