UPSHUR COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One man has been arrested after a traffic stop regarding an inspection sticker led to a 3rd offense DUI charge along with the discovery of a substance that was believed to be methamphetamine.
On April 17, 2023, Cpl. Collins with the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office was on patrol near the Hinkleville Straight when he noticed a White Ford Explorer without a Motor Vehicle Inspection sticker on the windshield.
Cpl. Collins made contact with the Ford Explorer at The General Store. The driver was identified as Samuel Matthew Smith. Samuel admitted to not having a valid driver’s license, insurance, registration, or an MVI sticker.
Samuel’s license is currently revoked for an active DUI. Samuel was arrested for driving while revoked, DUI 3rd offense, which is a felony.
After being placed under arrest, Cpl. Collins located a crystal-like substance that was consistent with methamphetamine. Samuel was transported to Tygart Valley Regional Jail where he remains on a $10,000 bond.
