MONTGOMERY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A 21-year-old man from Virginia was arrested Friday night following a burglary at a local tobacco shop.
According to Fayette County authorities, officers responded to a 911 call just before midnight reporting a burglar alarm at the Mr. Smoke Tobacco Shop on Third Avenue in Montgomery.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a hole had been smashed in the front window of the store and saw the suspect, 21-year-old Houston Kelly Cousins, inside.
The suspect attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended after running around the back of the building, where his path was blocked by a fence.
During the investigation, officers found that the suspect had used a rock to break the window and stole $100 in cash along with three Looka Egg 510 Cart Batteries, valued at nearly $35 each.
Some of the stolen items were recovered after the suspect tried to hide them outside the store.
The store’s keyholder confirmed the break-in and verified the stolen items. The suspect has been charged with entry of a building other than a dwelling and fleeing from a law enforcement officer.
Cousins is currently at Southern Regional Jail on a $50,000 bond.
