BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man is facing attempted murder charges out of Raleigh County.
According to the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department, on October 3, 2022, deputies responded to a domestic call. Once they arrived on the scene, the suspect, Charles Quarles, was holding a black knife in his hand and had several knives in his pocket. When deputies performed a Terry Frisk, they found crystal meth in his pocket.
Deputies then spoke to the victim, who they say had visible bruising to her neck, face, and head. The victim told deputies that she and Quarles had been in an argument earlier in the afternoon, and he began to hit her and throw her around the home. The victim said Quarles pulled her hair and then shaved part of her hair, looking for a wire. Quarles then hit her with a slapstick, choked her and pulled a knife on her, and said he was going to kill her.
Later in the afternoon, they both went to Quarles mother’s home, and he took the victim into the woods and shoved her to the ground. Witnesses on the scene said they heard the screams and saw Quarles come out of the woods holding a piece of wood in his hand.
When deputies asked Quarles about the incident, he admitted to doing everything. He also added that he would drive them both off a rock cliff. He said he would stop once she told him where the wire was that she had hidden in her hair. Quarles said he drove them to his mother’s home because he was looking for the man with whom he believed the victim had been cheating on him with.
Quarles is facing charges of attempted murder, malicious wounding, possession with intent, strangulation, and domestic battery. He is currently in Southern Regional Jail under a 50,000 dollar bond.
