LOGAN COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man is facing charges after malciously assaulting his brother and deputies.
On Thursday, June 6, 2024, Deputy C.L. Carter, along with several other officers from the Logan County Sheriff’s Department, was at the Logan County Communications Center when an emergency call reported a fight in progress.
The caller mentioned that two individuals, Mr. Ernest Vance and the victim, were involved in a physical altercation. The victim reported that he needed medical attention after being struck with a brick or possibly stabbed.
Upon arrival at the scene, the officers observed the victim lying beside the roadway and requested medical attention for him. Meanwhile, they located Ernest at a nearby residence and asked him to come to the patrol vehicle for safety reasons due to reports of someone at the scene possessing a firearm. However, Ernest refused to comply with the officer’s requests and became combative when the officer attempted to place him in handcuffs.
Despite the officers’ efforts, they were unable to subdue Ernest, who continued to resist their attempts to restrain him. Ernest spat on the undersigned officer while attempting to strike the undersigned officer with his foot. The undersigned officer then attempted to place a “spit mask” on Ernest at which time a brief struggle ensued. Eventually, Ernest was taken into custody and transported to the Southwestern Regional Jail.
While traveling to the jail, Ernest attempted to become combative again and attempted to strike Deputy Rosser who was in the front passenger seat of the patrol vehicle all while he was striking his head against the window of the patrol vehicle. During this incident, the undersigned ran off of the roadway almost causing a crash. Ernest had to receive medical treatment at Logan Regional Medical Center before being taken to the Southwestern Regional Jail to await arraignment.
During the course of the investigation, it was revealed that Ernest had allegedly assaulted his brother with a bicycle and attempted to strangle him.
Ernest had previous convictions related to assaulting law enforcement officers. The incident took place in Logan County, West Virginia.
Ernest was charged with battery on an officer, assault on an officer, strangulation, obstructing, and domestic battery.
