WHEELING, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Wheeling man is facing multiple felony charges after police say he attempted to assault and rob a woman, then tried to break into a nearby home early Wednesday morning.
Wheeling Police identified the suspect as 43-year-old Louis David Smith III. He has been charged with attempted robbery, attempted burglary, and third-offense domestic battery.
According to police, officers were first called around 1:52 a.m. to 19th Street, where a woman reported that Smith tried to attack her and steal her vehicle on Peninsula Street.
Police said the woman managed to escape and alert authorities.
Just minutes later, officers responded to a burglary in progress in the 900 block of McColloch Street in East Wheeling.
Witnesses from both scenes gave matching descriptions of the suspect, later identified as Smith.
Shortly after, officers received another report of a disorderly man on Lind Street. Police said they arrived and arrested Smith without further incident.
Smith was taken to the Northern Regional Jail in Moundsville, where he is awaiting arraignment.
Wheeling Police said the investigation is ongoing.
