BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man is facing charges after he stole a woman’s purse from the Kroger Parking lot in Beckley.
According to Beckley Police, a victim said she was loading groceries into her vehicle at the Kroger parking lot when someone yelled that someone just had stolen her purse from the back of her vehicle. The victim turned around and saw a male run from her vehicle and enter a red Volkswagen Beetle. The victim tried to follow the suspect but lost him.
Police were able to locate a red Volkswagen Beetle at Cranberry Cove Apartments. The driver of the vehicle was Brett Haynes. Haynes was asked about the incident and admitted to taking the purse. He took officers to a dumpster beside the apartment, where he had thrown it. He had 21 dollars worth of cash in his pocket that he had taken for the purse. The value of the purse and all her belongings totaled 1,201 dollars.
Haynes was charged with grand larceny.
