MORGANTOWN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Morgantown man is facing multiple felony charges following an officer-involved shooting on Ed Dunn Road in December, according to the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Todd H. Forbes said Tommy R. Gorrell, of Morgantown, is currently in custody after receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained during an exchange of gunfire with Monongalia County sheriff’s deputies. Gorrell was arraigned on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2026.
Authorities said Gorrell has been charged with four counts of attempted first-degree murder and one count of wanton endangerment. He is being held on a $500,000 cash or surety bond.
Officials noted that additional charges related to the incident remain under review and are expected to be filed.
The shooting occurred on Dec. 6, 2025. Following a comprehensive investigation conducted by detectives, officials determined that the deputies involved acted within the scope of the law and departmental policy.
The deputies have been cleared of any criminal wrongdoing, the sheriff’s office said.
