CHARLES TOWN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A 911 hang-up call escalated into a violent crime investigation on Sunday, December 1, when Charles Town Police Department officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Shutter Street.
The call was upgraded to a stabbing in progress as officers responded.
Upon arrival, the first officer encountered a man covered in blood walking in the roadway. Witnesses identified him as the suspect.
Nearby, another man was found lying in the roadway with multiple stab wounds.
The suspect, later identified as Juan Luis Garcia Aviles, 33, of no fixed address, was immediately detained.
Officers rendered first aid to the victim, who was transported by EMS to a designated landing zone and then flown to an out-of-state trauma center for further treatment.
The area was secured, and the Charles Town Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division was called in to process the scene.
After an initial investigation, Garcia Aviles was charged with attempted second-degree murder, malicious assault, and attempted grand larceny.
He was cleared by medical staff at Jefferson Medical Center before being transported to the Eastern Regional Jail.
Garcia Aviles is being held on a $100,000 bond set by Magistrate D’Angelo.
Authorities have stated that additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
