MINGO COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Mingo County man is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after allegedly assaulting his partner, threatening her with a shotgun, and injuring her dog during a violent domestic altercation on February 22, 2025.
At approximately 11:05 p.m., deputies from the Mingo County Sheriff’s Office and a West Virginia State Police trooper responded to a 911 call regarding a domestic disturbance at 200 Cemetery Access Road in Delbarton.
Incident Details
According to the victim, her partner, Joseph Allen Colangelo (also known as “Toby”), became physically violent during an argument. She told officers that Colangelo punched her multiple times in the face and then retrieved a shotgun from a gun safe, striking her with the firearm and telling her, “I am going to kill you.”
The victim also reported that Colangelo attacked her 14-year-old Yorkshire Terrier, punching the dog and throwing it, potentially breaking its leg and causing internal injuries. Officers noted the dog was struggling to breathe and unable to lift its head.
The victim stated that she attempted to leave the home several times, but Colangelo blocked her exit and placed a nightstand in front of the door. He reportedly told her, “I’m not going to jail over a bitch,” and refused to let her go. She eventually escaped by distracting him while helping retrieve his phone charger, then fled in her vehicle and called 911.
