WYOMING COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man claiming to be a WV State Trooper is facing charges after he was at a church walking around with a silver gun and acting erratic.
On the morning of Tuesday, June 4th, 2024, Sergeant Tyler Sizemore and Deputy Hunter Walker responded to numerous calls from the Wyoming County 911 Center and directly from the Sheriff’s Office about a man named “Beetle” Tilley in the Sabine area. The reports indicated that he was walking around with a silver gun and displaying erratic behavior.
One specific complaint to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office mentioned that “Beetle” Tilley was at a church in the Sabine area, brandishing a silver gun and claiming to be a West Virginia State Trooper.
The complaint expressed concern about his distressed or impaired state, especially since there were children witnessing the incident. Upon arriving at the area, deputies spotted Stephen “Beetle” Tilley between two vehicles at the church in Sabine. They approached him and asked him to walk toward the police cruiser, where they conducted a pat-down for officer safety.
During the pat-down, Tilley rambled incoherently and exhibited erratic and jittery behavior. When questioned about the gun, he pointed toward the church and mentioned that the silver gun was there. Deputies recovered a small, loaded .25 caliber handgun from the church based on his statements.
During a conversation with Deputy Walker, Tilley reiterated that he had been telling people all day that he was a State Trooper and claimed to have been employed by the West Virginia State Police for several years.
As a result of his conduct and its potential danger to the public, Stephen Tilley was arrested for impersonating an officer and disorderly conduct.
