CABIN CREEK, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A woman was stabbed early Wednesday morning, leading to a fatal altercation between law enforcement and the suspect.
According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at around 1:48 a.m., Kanawha County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to investigate a reported stabbing at 100 Gatewood Court in Cabin Creek.
Dispatchers were informed a male had been physically beating a female and that the woman had been stabbed multiple times.
Upon arriving at the scene, Deputies were able to locate a seriously injured adult woman who had sustained multiple stab wounds at a neighboring residence.
The adult male suspect was still at the scene and was located inside his residence in Gatewood Court.
Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority Medics were called to the scene where the victim woman was provided with medical treatment. The woman was immediately transported to CAMC General Hospital Trauma Unit where she is reportedly currently undergoing surgery for critical injuries sustained in the incident.
Deputies were involved in a brief standoff with the male suspect, who was refusing to surrender himself to authorities and was said to be armed.
The male pointed a firearm out of the window of the residence, prompting deputies to fire their weapons at the armed male. The male was believed to have been stuck; though he remained inside the home in unknown condition.
Deputies were able to make entry to the residence where the male suspect was discovered inside deceased.
Investigators with the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigative Section are investigating the incident, and Detectives confirmed that deputies were indeed involved in the shooting.
No deputies are said to have been injured as a result of this incident.
“To protect the integrity of this investigation, no names or further details can be released at this time as this is still very early in our investigation,” said the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday.
“Please expect a heavy police presence in the area for the next several hours and if possible, please try to avoid the area. There is currently no threat to the public at large and we will keep the public and media updated as new information becomes available.”
