MASON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Point Pleasant man was found dead inside a spare Mason Police Department cruiser Tuesday after surveillance video showed he had entered the unlocked vehicle two days earlier, according to West Virginia State Police.
Police said Mason Police Chief C. McKinney discovered 55-year-old Gregory Roush inside the rear seat of a spare Chevrolet Tahoe on Sept. 1.
During the investigation, a West Virginia State Police trooper reviewed surveillance footage from the Mason Police Department parking lot. Investigators determined Roush drove into the parking lot on Aug. 30.
According to police, surveillance footage showed Roush opening the rear side door of the unlocked spare Tahoe, entering the rear seat area and closing the door behind him.
Police said Roush remained inside the vehicle until he was discovered two days later.
A family friend reportedly noticed Roush’s vehicle in the police department parking lot and spoke with McKinney. The police chief then reviewed surveillance footage and saw Roush climb into the spare cruiser.
Roush was subsequently found deceased inside the vehicle.
His body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy. West Virginia State Police said no foul play is suspected at this time.
Roush’s next of kin have been notified.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police said no further information is available at this time.
