CLARKSBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Edgardo Quinones-Hiraldo, 35, of Ponce, Puerto Rico, has pled guilty to charges of escape and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, federal officials announced Wednesday.
Court records show that Quinones-Hiraldo was serving a 51-month sentence in a federal prison in Florida for firearms trafficking in Puerto Rico.
Upon his release, he was transferred to Dismas Charities Residential Reentry Center in Clarksburg, where he was expected to complete the final part of his sentence.
However, Quinones-Hiraldo failed to report to the facility as required and was later arrested in Clarksburg. At the time of his arrest, he was carrying a revolver and a pistol.
For the escape charge, Quinones-Hiraldo faces up to five years in prison, and for the firearms possession charge, he could receive up to 15 years.
His sentencing will be determined by a federal district court judge, who will consider the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines along with other statutory factors.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Cogar, with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the U.S. Marshals Service conducting the investigation.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael John Aloi presided over the case.
