MERCER COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A family dispute escalated into a criminal case this week after a man allegedly assaulted his brother and took off with a rental truck and trailer, prompting a multi-jurisdictional response.
According to Deputy Sizemore of the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department, the incident began while the two brothers were working and driving through Lewisburg, WV. During an argument in the vehicle, one brother reportedly became enraged and punched the other in the face.
Despite the assault, the driver continued home to Kudos Court in Bluefield, WV. Upon arrival, the passenger jumped into the driver’s seat of the 2024 white Ram 3500 rental truck and drove away — taking with him a homemade trailer valued at approximately $400.
The vehicle, rented from Enterprise in Princeton, was reported stolen, and local law enforcement quickly coordinated efforts to locate it. Deputies were able to track the suspect, who is on home confinement and wearing an ankle monitor. His location was traced to Bullet Bill Drive in Bluefield, VA.
A “be on the lookout” alert was issued, and the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Department soon spotted the vehicle traveling eastbound on Route 460. A traffic stop confirmed the suspect, Christopher Stables, was behind the wheel.
The vehicle and trailer were recovered at the scene, and the victim reclaimed his property.
Authorities arrested Christopher Stables, 34, on charges of unlawful taking of a vehicle and petit larceny.
