HARTS, WV (LOOTPRESS)— Authorities responded to a suspected arson at 1010 McClellan Highway in Harts, West Virginia, where a residence was found fully engulfed in flames.
Chief Deputy R.R. Clark and Deputy R.D. Elkins of the local sheriff’s department were dispatched to the scene after fire department personnel reported an individual admitting to starting the fire.
According to officials, the accused, identified as Jerry Caleb Trenton Adams, admitted at the scene to pouring gasoline on the floor and setting it on fire. Adams, who appeared visibly distressed, referenced “demons” during his statement. Deputies also found a glass pipe in his possession, commonly associated with drug use.
The homeowner, who is the accused’s grandmother, stated that she was informed of the incident by the accused’s brother. He had reportedly run to her place of business to alert her that the home was on fire.
The victim disclosed that Jerry Adams has a history of drug addiction and mental illness.
Upon arrival, deputies observed the residence fully engulfed in flames. The accused was taken into custody without incident.
The investigation is ongoing.
