FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Pocahontas County man has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to felony fleeing from law enforcement with reckless indifference and drug conspiracy charges in Fayette County.
Fayette County Prosecuting Attorney Anthony Ciliberti Jr. announced that Dustin D. Morrison, 31, of Marlinton, was sentenced June 22 by Circuit Judge W.E. Sam Fox II to one to five years in prison for fleeing from an officer with reckless indifference and 10 years in prison for drug conspiracy.
Morrison pleaded guilty to the charges on March 19. According to the prosecutor’s office, he will serve two and a half years before becoming eligible for parole. The Fayette County sentences will begin after he completes sentences from Randolph and Pocahontas counties.
Prosecutors said Morrison has prior felony convictions for possession with intent to deliver in 2017 and 2018, transporting illegal drugs into a correctional facility in 2022, and conspiracy to commit a felony in 2022.
The charges stem from two traffic stops in February 2025.
According to the prosecutor’s office, Morrison was stopped on Feb. 14, 2025, for a burned-out headlight. He allegedly refused to get out of the vehicle and sped away, leading officers on a pursuit north on U.S. Route 19 for several miles before police terminated the chase.
Ten days later, on Feb. 24, 2025, Morrison was stopped while driving a different vehicle for a burned-out registration light. Prosecutors said he initially gave officers a false name, but after his identity was confirmed, he was arrested on the felony fleeing warrant from the earlier incident as well as parole violation warrants.
A search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered suspected illegal drugs and firearms. Laboratory testing later confirmed Morrison possessed approximately 10 grams of fentanyl and 239 grams of methamphetamine, according to the prosecutor’s office.
The case was investigated by the Oak Hill Police Department and prosecuted by Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Jennifer D. Crane.
