JACKSON COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Ripley man was seriously injured in a shooting that authorities say occurred at a residence on Klondyke Road.
According to the Ripley Police Department, officers responded to Jackson General Hospital after Quinton Joyner walked in with a gunshot wound. Investigators determined that Joyner had been shot in the back at close range with a .45-caliber firearm, causing the projectile to exit his torso and continue through his left forearm.
Phillip Goodwin, who was reportedly at the residence during the incident, gave inconsistent accounts of what happened. Authorities say his statements downplayed the number of people present and inaccurately described the shooting as a “disengagement of a firearm.”
Police say the circumstances, combined with the severity of Joyner’s injuries and Goodwin’s conflicting statements, provide probable cause to charge Goodwin with malicious wounding under West Virginia law.
Joyner is recovering from his injuries, and the investigation remains ongoing.
