WOOD COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Man arrested after sitting in the middle of the road, obstructing traffic, refusing to move.
On July 28, 2024, Captain Allen was at the intersection of Avery and 4th Streets, preparing to turn right onto 4th Street. As he looked back towards Market Street, he noticed a man crouched in the middle of 4th Street near the intersection with Market, obstructing a traffic lane.
According to regulations, pedestrians are prohibited from walking on an adjacent roadway with sidewalks. Since 4th Street is one-way, Captain Allen turned onto 4th Street to circle the block and approach the man. Upon doing so, Captain Allen saw a pickup truck coming at the man, who remained crouched in the travel lane and did not move for the vehicle. The car swerved around the man and continued.
Captain Allen was able to circle back. As he turned onto 4th Street from Market, he observed the man standing upright in the lane, still blocking it, while a white truck came to a halt just past him. The man appeared to confront the truck driver, seemingly preparing to fight.
Captain Allen approached the visibly agitated man and immediately warned his unit to be ready for potential violence. The man provided his West Virginia ID, confirming his identity as Jeremy Scott Henthorn, but continued to exhibit aggressive behavior.
Captain Allen ordered Henthorn to place his hands behind his back due to his actions, but the man refused and squared up to the officer, appearing ready to fight. When Henthorn continued to disobey commands, Deputy Fridenstine seized him, forcibly pulling his arms behind his back to handcuff him.
Upon closer inspection, the man was noted to have a strong smell of alcohol on his breath and body, and he admitted to consuming two tall boys of beer. His speech was slurred, and his eyes appeared bloodshot and watery.
