BOONE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Boone County man is in custody after deputies say he sprayed flammable chemicals inside a home and threatened to set it on fire during a domestic disturbance.
On the morning of April 20, 2025, around 10:30 a.m., Boone County deputies were dispatched to a residence on Missouri Fork Road in Hewett following reports of a man spraying starting fluid inside a house and making threats to burn it down.
Deputy R.B. Dotson responded to the scene and spoke with the reporting individual, who stated that her husband, Dustin Mayse, had taken several Xanax pills, was highly agitated, and had accused her of infidelity before dousing parts of the home with starting fluid and butane.
Deputy Dotson, along with Deputy Shelton, entered the home and was immediately met with a strong chemical odor. They located Mayse in a bedroom, where he appeared to be intoxicated and was surrounded by the overwhelming smell of the flammable substances.
Mayse was detained without incident, and the residence was evacuated due to the risk of fire. The local fire department was also notified to assess the hazard.
Mayse was arrested and is facing charges related to the incident. Authorities say the complaint is based on deputies’ observations and a statement from the victim. The event took place in the unincorporated community of Hewett in Boone County.
