CHELYAN, WV (LOOTPRESS ) – A Kanawha County man has been an arrested on charges pertaining in part to the recent theft of a Donantion Box for West Virginia Children’s Home.
According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, on Monday, July 17, 2023, Kanawha County Sheriff’s Deputy D.J. Dorsey was dispatched to Par Mar Convenience Store located at 15039 MacCorkle Avenue SE in Chelyan to investigate reports of a theft.
Deputy Dorsey learned that just prior to the close of business on Sunday, July 16, 2023, a male wearing dark clothing and a Boston Red Sox hat had entered the store and stolen a donation box from the sales counter. This donation box was to raise funds for the West Virginia Children’s Home, a program operated by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources. The box is reported to have contained an estimated $100.00 in cash donations at the time of the theft.
The assistant manager of the store was familiar with the suspect involved, and identified him as Shawn Jarrell, 35-years-old of Cabin Creek, Kanawha County.
While Deputy Dorsey was investigating the incident in question, Jarrell himself was seen walking past the store on MacCorkle Avenue SE wearing the same clothing the suspect was described to have been wearing during the reported theft incident. Deputy Dorsey the conducted an interview with Jarrell who admitted to stealing the donation box before hiding it in the woods.
Shawn Jarrell was placed under arrest for charges of petit larceny of the donation box, as well S for an outstanding court capias for an underlying shoplifting and possession of a controlled substance charge.
