SMITHERS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Smithers man is facing felony charges after committing various atrocities against a woman he held captive for a number of days.
According to reports from Sheriff Mike Fridley, deputies were dispatched to the Smithers Detachment of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department on Friday to hear a complaint from a female.
Upon meeting the woman, deputies took immediate notice of her visibly battered and distressed state.
The female revealed that, over the course of the past two days, her boyfriend had held her against her will, choking her and beating her intermittently.
It was also revealed that, early Friday morning, the female convinced her captor to allow her to drive him to the South Charleston area. It was here she was able to make her escape at a point when he had exited the vehicle.
Harold Richard-Daniel Tolbert, 40 of Smithers, has been arrested and charged with felony offenses of Kidnapping and Strangulation, as well as the misdemeanor charge of Domestic Battery.
Tolbert was transported to Southern Regional Jail where he will await court proceedings.Â
