UPDATE: July 11, 2024, at 3 pm: A man who was wanted for having sex with animals and sending videos to minors has been extradited to Beckley.
According to the Beckley Police Department, on April 5, 2024, Beckley Police Department officers were sent to 115 Clyde Street in Beckley, Raleigh County, West Virginia, regarding a missing/runaway juvenile. The juvenile’s mother informed the officers that her daughter referred to as “EH,” had left home and had not returned with her cell phone in her possession. It was revealed that the juvenile had been using the “TextNow” texting application on one of her cell phones to communicate with adult males. To aid in the search for the missing juvenile, records from the juvenile’s TextNow account were obtained for the period of March 1 to April 6, 2024.
During the investigation, it was discovered that a phone number with a New York area code was engaging in inappropriate communication of a sexual nature with the juvenile. A search warrant was issued to AT&T, the wireless provider associated with the phone number. AT&T provided subscriber details for the phone number, identifying the owner as 50-year-old Shawn Hirschbine from Winter Haven, Florida.
In the text exchanges between the juvenile and Mr. Hirschbine, he repeatedly requested explicit images and suggested engaging in sexual activities in various locations. On March 31, 2024, Mr. Hirschbine made lewd comments and sent images to the juvenile, including explicit photos and videos.
Despite the juvenile’s lack of response, Mr. Hirschbine continued to send inappropriate content, including videos of himself engaging in sexual acts with animals. The disturbing communication culminated in Mr. Hirschbine sending explicit images and videos, including one depicting him engaging in sexual intercourse with a horse. These actions were met with further explicit requests and content from Mr. Hirschbine, showcasing a pattern of concerning behavior.
Original Story: June 23, 2024:
BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – In a disturbing case, a man identified as Shawn Hirschbine was arrested Saturday night for outstanding warrants in West Virginia.
Hirschbine, who was taken into custody from a bus, is accused of a series of grotesque acts involving animals.
He allegedly filmed himself engaging in sexual acts with a pony and other animals, distributing the footage to minors.
Although these acts took place in West Virginia, where bestiality is not illegal, Hirschbine could face charges in Pennsylvania if DNA evidence corroborates his involvement.
According to Adams County SPCA, they are currently conducting DNA tests on several animals to detect human DNA.
However, it will take months to obtain the results. If Hirschbine’s DNA is found, he could face additional charges in Pennsylvania.
Meanwhile, Hirschbine is expected to remain incarcerated in West Virginia on separate charges out of Beckley where he allegedly sent a video of himself having sex with a horse to a minor.
For the past two weeks, Hirschbine, his girlfriend, and several abused animals traveled through Adams County, unbeknownst to local residents.
The Adams County SPCA, responding to the case, found many animals in distressing conditions. While most of the animals are recovering, some did not survive.
The SPCA made the difficult decision to euthanize three German Shepherds showing signs of severe trauma and aggression, believing it was in the best interest of both the animals and their staff.
The SPCA has also reported an outbreak of scabies among their staff, likely contracted from the birds on the bus. This highly contagious condition has resulted in the temporary closure of the SPCA to the public.
The Pennsylvania Health Department has been informed, though they do not intervene in scabies cases, according to the SPCA.
The SPCA says they will not be accepting any stray animals, owner surrenders, or performing surgeries until further notice.
