MARLINTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The town of Marlinton has issued a voluntary evacuation order as the Greenbrier River continues to rise following an overnight rainstorm.
Residents are advised to seek shelter at Marlinton Middle School.
Officials expect the river to keep rising until between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. tonight, with a projected crest between 11.5 and 12.5 feet.
As a precaution, reentry into the town will be restricted until water levels recede to a safe level.
Residents of 2nd and 3rd Avenue, south of 9th Street, are urged to closely monitor the river and make arrangements before conditions become dangerous.
