BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – West Virginia-based band Matt Mullins & The Bringdowns will mark this Memorial Day with the release of a deeply personal new single, “Mose Vance,” honoring a fallen World War II hero from their home state.
The song, which tells the powerful story of Pfc. Mose Vance, will debut Monday, May 26, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. across all major streaming platforms.

“Mose Vance” also holds a special place as the closing track on the band’s forthcoming album, Learn From Letting Go, set for full release in June 2025. The album captures themes of remembrance, resilience, and reflection – with “Mose Vance” serving as a moving finale that ties together the record’s emotional arc.
A Story of Service and Sacrifice Pfc. Mose Edward Vance, a McDowell County native, served in the U.S. Army’s 180th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division, during World War II. He was killed in action in France in 1945 during the Battle of the Vosges.
For decades, his remains were unaccounted for, and he was memorialized among the unknown. Thanks to recent advances in DNA testing and the tireless work of his family and military researchers, Pfc. Vance’s remains were identified in early 2024. This summer, he will finally receive a full military funeral in Welch, West Virginia — bringing long-overdue closure to his loved ones and his community. The band’s new single recounts this incredible journey of loss, discovery, and homecoming.
“Mose Vance” honors not only the soldier himself but all service members whose sacrifices shaped the nation’s history. “When we heard Mose’s story, it hit close to home,” said Matt Mullins, lead singer of The Bringdowns. “As West Virginians, we felt a responsibility to tell it the best way we knew how — through music. We hope this song honors his legacy and reminds people of the real human stories behind every flag we see flying on Memorial Day.”
Learn From Letting Go: A New Chapter The release of “Mose Vance” also builds anticipation for Matt Mullins & The Bringdowns’ fourth studio album, Learn From Letting Go. The album represents the band’s most mature and heartfelt work to date, blending their signature Appalachian soul with broader themes of growth, loss, perseverance, and moving forward. Tracks on the album journey through personal and shared experiences — from the restless searching of youth to the bittersweet process of letting go of old burdens. “
Mose Vance,” as the final track, anchors the project with a reminder that honoring the past is an essential part of moving forward. Learn From Letting Go will be available on vinyl, CD, and streaming platforms starting in June 2025, with album release shows planned at Folklore Music Exchange (Charleston, WV) on Thursday, June 5th, and Weathered Ground Brewery (Cool Ridge, WV) on Friday, June 6th.
Listen and Connect “Mose Vance” will be available starting Monday, May 26th at 9:00 a.m. on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and all other major platforms.
